Your internet connection is the single biggest factor in IPTV quality. The good news: most US home connections are already fast enough.
Recommended speeds per stream
- SD: 5 Mbps
- HD / Full HD: 15 Mbps
- 4K: 25 Mbps
- 8K content: 50 Mbps or more
These are for one stream. Add them up if other people are gaming, video calling or streaming at the same time.
Speed is not everything
Stability matters as much as raw speed. A steady 30 Mbps connection beats a 300 Mbps connection that drops every few minutes.
How to test properly
- Run a speed test on the TV or streaming stick itself, not on your phone.
- Test in the evening, when your neighbourhood is busiest.
- Compare Wi-Fi with a wired Ethernet cable if you can.
Quick ways to improve it
- Use Ethernet or a Wi-Fi mesh point near the TV.
- Use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band instead of 2.4 GHz.
- Restart your router once a week.
